Transportation

Question: Is a district required to provide transportation to all students in the school district?

A: No, the district is only required to transport students with a disability living in the school district under this provision if the student has transportation listed as a related service on the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) or county board of developmental disabilities individual service plan. For additional information about transportation, please reach out to your child’s IEP team. 

 

Medical diagnosis vs. school based identification

Question: What is the difference between a medical/private evaluation and a school based evaluation?  
A: A medical or private evaluation is completed through the lens of medical or clinical eligibility. School based evaluations are completed through the guidelines established by the federal law of IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act). Under these guidelines, a child must be identified as having a disability and, because of that disability, require special education and related services to benefit from public education.

School year vs. Summer services

Question: When does the school year start?  
A: The Montrose Preschool program follows the Bexley City Schools’ school year calendar.
Question: Will my child receive the services outlined in their IEP during the summer? 
A: The IEP is implemented during the regular school calendar unless noted in section 4 (extended school year services). Extended School Year services are special education and related services that are provided by the district beyond the traditional school calendar (usually summer). The IEP team reviews data and determines if a break in instruction leads to regression on IEP goals and that regression is not recouped in a reasonable time period.
